Dr. Scott Anthony Jones, Director of Bands

Dr. Scott Anthony Jones serves as Director of Bands at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Dr. Jones oversees all aspects of the dynamic band program, conducts the Wind Symphony, Concert Band (Fall), University Band (Spring), and teaches courses in conducting, wind literature and music education.
Prior to Kingsville, Dr. Jones was Assistant Director of Bands and Associate Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Georgia, working with the 440-member Redcoat Marching Band, directing Concert Winds and Basketball Band, and teaching courses in conducting and orchestration. Dr. Jones has also held positions at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Morgan State University, Maryland Conservatory of Music, The Peabody Institute, and The Highlands School in Maryland.
Dr. Jones holds the Doctor of Music in Wind Conducting from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, the Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Master of Music in Saxophone from The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, and the Bachelor of Music from Grand Valley State University in Michigan. Dr. Jones serves frequently as a guest clinician and is a contributor to various GIA publications. He currently holds memberships in CBDNA, NAfME, CMS, NBA, WASBE, TMEA, and is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Dr. Jason Kihle, Associate Director of Bands

Dr. Jason Kihle is currently Associate Professor of Percussion and Associate Director of Bands at Texas A&M University–Kingsville. Dr. Kihle collaborates in the concert percussion ensemble program with Professor Randy Fluman. He directs the Pride of South Texas Marching Band and teaches applied percussion.
He has studied percussion with Mike Blake, Jim White, Gray Barrier, Michael Spiro, and Mark Ford. Dr. Kihle has been published in Early Music Colorado Quarterly, The Instrumentalist and The Educator’s Companion, a publication of the Percussive Arts Society. He has been a presenter at the Minot State University Northwest International Festival of Music, the National Conference on Percussion Pedagogy, and the state music education association conferences of North Dakota, Wyoming, California, and Iowa.
Dr. Kihle has performed with the Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Wind Ensemble, Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra, and the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed at the National Conference on Percussion Pedagogy, the International Double Reed Society Convention, Texas Music Educators Association, the National Flute Association Convention and College Music Society Regional Conference. He performed Concertino for Marimba by Paul Creston at California State University Los Angeles in the spring of 2013.
Dr. Kihle is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, National Association for Music Education, Texas Music Educators Association, the National Association of Wind and Percussion Instructors, and the College Music Society. He is an Innovative Percussion endorser, Yamaha Performing Artist and Black Swamp Educator.

Mr. Edward Moncada, Adjunct Lecturer In Music
Edward will serve as an adjunct lecturer in music, assisting with the Javelina Marching Band, conducting the University Band, and teaching courses in the music department.
Edward is a graduate of Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he received the Bachelor of Music degree with Teacher Certification and the Master of Music degree in Saxophone Performance. For the past 7 years, he has been an active musician and music educator in the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas area.
As a saxophonist, Mr. Moncada has performed in a variety of classical and jazz settings. During his time at TAMUK, he performed with the university’s premiere ensembles, including the Wind Symphony, Jazz Band I, Quartet I, and Jazz Combo I. While participating in university ensembles, he has performed on tours of South Texas, the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, and has shared the stage with artists such as Jeff “Tain” Watts, Byron Stripling, Wycliffe Gordon, Eric Marienthal, Gordon Goodwin, and Doc Severinsen. Mr. Moncada has also made appearances in performing ensembles, including the McAllen All-Star Jazz Band and the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra.
As an educator, Mr. Moncada has worked as a technician and consultant for a variety of recognized band programs including Harlingen High School, San Benito High School, and Rio Hondo High School. He has worked as a clinician for jazz improvisation clinics, saxophone camps, summer band camps, and TMEA All-State Clinics in Region 15 and Region 28. While attending graduate school, Mr. Moncada held a Graduate Assistantship in which he assisted the TAMUK faculty and staff with instructing the Javelina Marching Band and TAMUK concert bands. Mr. Moncada is also an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
