Welcome to The Pride of South Texas!
The Pride of South Texas is the largest and most visible student organization on campus, and we are thrilled that you want to join us. Our mission involves five major tasks:
- Serve as goodwill ambassadors for TAMUK.
- Support the Javelinas!
- Set State and National Standards in performance to engage our audience.
- Provide the opportunity for students to participate in a marching band ensemble.
- Provide a creative outlet in a supportive family environment.
The Javelina Marching Band rehearses M/W/F from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, and on gameday (Saturday) mornings from 9:00am to 11:00am. Attendance is required at all rehearsals and performances. Class conflicts can often be resolved through advanced planning and communication, and should not deter you from joining the ensemble. Both music majors and NON-music majors are encouraged to participate!
You must be a full-time student at TAMUK, and enroll in the marching band class (MUSI 1127 or 3127). Marching band is a one-credit course.
Pride of South Texas Preseason Camp:
Every year, the Pride of South Texas holds a preseason camp that is held the week before the start of class. Attendance at this camp is mandatory for membership, since approximately 50% of all of our rehearsal time is held during this single week of practice. For the 2020 season, the dates are as follows:
LEADERSHIP Mini-Camp: Thursday and Friday, August 13-14.
Drumline/Front Ensemble/Guard Report: Saturday, August 15.
ALL OTHER MEMBERS Report: Sunday, August 16
FULL CAMP: Sunday, August 16 through Sunday, August 23.
Further details about the Preseason Camp will be sent at a later date.
Please register using the link below to let us know you are joining us. We want to be sure you’re included in the drill counts! PLEASE NOTE: This registration DOES NOT register you for the class through the university. You will need to arrange to have that done with your advisor.
We look forward to having you on campus! GO HOGS!
