Spring Audition Information

Auditions for Concert Band, University Band (and certain sections of Wind Symphony*) will take place on Tuesday, January 20 and Wednesday, January 21. Sign up sheets will be posted outside the Band Annex by 5 pm on December 1st.

NON-MUSIC MAJORS: We have a place for you in TAMUK BANDS! Please print and prepare the excerpts as best you can, and we will find the best ensemble to fit you! You can also contact Dr. Jones ([email protected]) for guidance.

MUSIC MAJORS: All woodwinds, brass, and percussionists must audition, register for, and perform in their assigned Spring Ensemble. In certain cases, there may also be openings in Wind Symphony, so play your best!

PERCUSSIONISTS: Prepare any 2 of the 3 excerpts.

*CURRENT WIND SYMPHONY MEMBERS: The following sections must re-audition with everyone else (this is due in large part to personnel changes for student teaching, graduation, or for instrumentation needs throughout all three bands).

Wind Symphony Sections that need to re-audition:

  • All Clarinets
  • All Saxophones
  • All Trumpets (Auditions in December with Dr. Millsap's excerpts)
  • Tubas

All other Wind Symphony sections are exempt from ensemble auditions for the Spring Semester, however the directors reserve the option to hold chair auditions at any point if needed.

Please click here to download and print the excerpts for your instrument. Note that some instruments have 2 examples, while others have 3.

If you have any questions, please see Dr. Jones during office hours (HREC 120) or email ([email protected]).

Good luck!
