Dr. Scott Anthony Jones, Director of Bands

Dr. Scott Anthony Jones serves as Director of Bands at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Dr. Jones oversees all aspects of the dynamic band program, conducts the Wind Symphony, Concert Band (Fall), University Band (Spring), and teaches courses in conducting, wind literature and music education. Dr. Jones’ creative and research interests focus on two distinct areas: (1) Expansion of wind band repertoire through commissioning and supporting young composers, and (2) Advancing music education in South Texas through development of a graduate-level conducting program and hosting conducting/rehearsal clinics.
Prior to Kingsville, Dr. Jones was Assistant Director of Bands and Associate Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Georgia, working with the 440-member Redcoat Marching Band, directing Concert Winds and Basketball Band, and teaching courses in conducting and orchestration. Dr. Jones has also held positions at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Morgan State University, Maryland Conservatory of Music, The Peabody Institute, and The Highlands School in Maryland.
Dr. Jones holds the Doctor of Music in Wind Conducting from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, the Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Master of Music in Saxophone from The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, and the Bachelor of Music from Grand Valley State University in Michigan. Dr. Jones serves frequently as a guest clinician and is a contributor to various GIA publications. He currently holds memberships in CBDNA, NAfME, CMS, NBA, WASBE, TMEA, and is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Dr. George Schrader, Interim Associate Director of Bands

Dr. George Schrader will begin his position as the Interim Associate Director of Bands for Texas A&M University-Kingsville for the 2019/2020 school year, directing the “Pride of South Texas” Javelina Marching Band, the Concert Band, and teaching undergraduate music education courses.
Prior to Kingsville, Dr. Schrader was the Associate Director of Bands at the University of Wyoming, directing the “Western Thunder” Marching Band, basketball and volleyball athletic bands, the Symphony Band, and teaching courses in marching band techniques and brass methods. Dr. Schrader held public school positions in the Albuquerque and Bloomfield school districts in New Mexico, teaching band and choir in grades 5 through 12. Ensembles under his direction consistently achieved superior and excellent ratings in all captions, and received first-place in class in regional concert and marching competitions. Dr. Schrader continues to be in demand as a drill writer, music arranger, composer, and clinician for ensembles across the country at both the secondary and collegiate levels.
Dr. Schrader received the D.M.A. in Wind Conducting from the University of Oklahoma, the Master of Music Education from the University of Wyoming, and the B.A. in Music Education from Spring Arbor University. He is a member of CBDNA and NAFME, and holds honorary memberships with Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, and Phi Mu Alpha. Dr. Schrader lives with his wife Whitney (RN, BSN, BS), and daughter Norah.

Mr. Edward Moncada, Adjunct Assistant Director of Bands
Mr. Moncada is a graduate of Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he received the Bachelor of Music degree with Teacher Certification and the Master of Music degree in Saxophone Performance. For the past 8 years, he has been an active musician and music educator in the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas area.
As a saxophonist, Mr. Moncada has performed in a variety of classical and jazz settings. During his time at TAMUK, he performed with the university’s premiere ensembles, including the Wind Symphony, Jazz Band I, Saxophone Quartet 1, and Jazz Combo 1. While participating in university ensembles, he has performed on tours of South Texas, at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, and has shared the stage with artists such as Jeff “Tain” Watts, Byron Stripling, Wycliffe Gordon, Eric Marienthal, Gordon Goodwin, and Doc Severinsen. Mr. Moncada has also participated in professional performing ensembles including the the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra, the McAllen All-Star Jazz Band, and the Rio Grande Valley Jazz Orchestra.
As an educator, Mr. Moncada has worked as a technician and consultant for a variety of recognized band programs including Harlingen High School, San Benito High School, and Rio Hondo High School. He has worked as a clinician for jazz improvisation clinics, saxophone camps, summer band camps, jazz improvisation clinics and TMEA All-State Etude Clinics in Region 15 and Region 28. While attending graduate school, Mr. Moncada held a Graduate Assistantship in which he assisted the TAMUK faculty and staff with instructing the Javelina Marching Band and TAMUK concert bands. He currently holds a membership in TMEA and is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
